PRACTICAL GUIDE · TEXT EDIT MD 0.10.0
Markdown to PDF with Equations, Code, and Diagrams
Technical AI answers often contain more than paragraphs. Keep the source in Markdown and render the useful details into a PDF you can read or print.
Open the source, check the page, save the PDF
Open a .md or .markdown file, drop it into Text Edit MD, or paste copied Markdown. The formatted view lets you edit directly; Source shows the underlying text. Open Print layout to preview pages and choose Save PDF.
For a plain-text .txt file containing Markdown, use the MD switch to display its formatting. Save a .md copy if you want to keep that interpretation with the document.
LaTeX equations and chemical formulas
Use inline delimiters such as $E=mc^2$, or a display block enclosed by $$. Common backslash delimiters \(…\) and \[…\] are also supported. Click a rendered formula to edit its source.
$$

Water: $\ce{H2O}$
Reaction: $\ce{2 H2 + O2 -> 2 H2O}$The app uses KaTeX and mhchem. It supports their equation and chemistry syntax; it is not a complete LaTeX typesetting installation or a molecular drawing program. If a command is unsupported, check the formula source rather than expecting every LaTeX package to be available.
Mermaid flowcharts and sequence diagrams
Put Mermaid source inside a fenced block labelled mermaid. Supported diagrams render in the document and in the PDF. Click a diagram to edit its source.

```Text Edit MD includes Mermaid Tiny. Some advanced diagram types and layout engines are not included. Unsupported or invalid diagrams keep readable source; nested diagram fences in lists or quotes may remain code.
Tables, code, and footnotes
Markdown tables keep their columns and alignment. Language-tagged code blocks get syntax coloring for JavaScript, TypeScript, Python, JSON, HTML/XML, CSS, Bash, PowerShell, SQL, C, C++, C#, Java, Markdown, and YAML. Unknown or very large blocks remain readable plain code.
Use named footnotes such as Claim[^source] and a definition [^source]: Supporting note. The printed PDF collects notes at the end of the document, not at the bottom of each page.
Choose a layout that suits the content
One column gives wide tables and code more room. Two or three columns can suit shorter notes. Check long code lines and wide diagrams in the actual preview; adjust text size, margins, and columns before saving.
Download the sample Markdown and compare it with its generated PDF. Both were created for this site using the current release.
Images in a self-contained document
A picture link is not the same as embedded image data. Import pictures before printing when the app reports unresolved links. Save the resulting Markdown if you want the pictures to travel with the editable file. How image links and embedding work →
